Beyond and back…
Back to the days when
several members of Pentacle spent many Sunday afternoons in the sweaty
Willem II in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. Around 1988-1994 both Mike and I
saw countless amazing acts destroying the stage of the tiny, yet
intimate club. We were able to witness (upcoming) international acts
like Morbid Angel, Death, Autopsy, Revenant, Massacre, Carcass,
Cathedral, Immolation, Grave, Samael, Bolt Thrower, Tiamat, Paradise
Lost, Nocturnus and Entombed touring The Netherlands (for the first
time). But also great Dutch bands like Sinister, Gorefest, Dead Head,
Asphyx, Thanatos, Korsakov, Pestilence, Acrostichon and The Gathering
were pounding our eardrums with their deadly sounds. Meeting kindred
maniacs from all over The Netherlands/Belgium and buying records from
the back trunk of Wim Baelus’ car. Those days were/are really something
special…
After years The Gathering came in contact again with
several members from Acrostichon. Of course they talked a lot about the
good old days, especially the ones they had, just like us, at the
Willem II. They had a great nostalgic trip talking about those days.
Soon they came to the conclusion they would love to do this again! The
Gathering’s debut album ‘Always…’ is almost 20 years old (April 1992).
Hans Rutten (drums) contacted all old school Gathering ‘Always…’ era
members and everybody immediately liked the idea to do something
together. An old school Doom/Death party! Acrostichon released their
debut album ‘Engraved in Black’ almost the same period, and Pentacle
released their debut demo ‘Caressed by Both Sides’ as well 20 years ago.
Why not celebrate this? So, after sharing so many amazing memories and
friendships, it’s time to add something new again!
Grab your
agenda: The Gathering, Acrostichon and Pentacle will play live together
at the Willem II (now called W2) Sunday afternoon 1st of April (no
joke!) 2012! Acrostichon will be headlining, The Gathering and Pentacle
will be support acts.
Last but definitly not least: All profit will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
